AppleScript to Manage Background Tasks v1.0 [download]

This script was created for use with Final Cut Pro. I was tired of manually closing and opening my most-used applications that would otherwise grab CPU from FCP. This AppleScript automates the process. Download, unzip, and copy this script to ~/Scripts and use it to stop and start a number of applications.

Refer to this post for more information.Updated 9/15/07

PhatMac iconPhatMac Custom Icon [download]

Circa April 2007 this has become the official icon for PhatMac version 0.6.1.

If you own a PhatBox MP3 player you know there isn’t a Mac version available. Fortunately we have Cameron Silver’s excellent PhatMac as a third-party solution. If you’re a PhatMac fan and want an application icon resembling iTunes + PhatBox then look no further. How to use:

  • Download and unzip
  • Select the phatmac.icns file, right-click, and choose Get Info
  • Click the icon in the upper left, then select Edit | Copy
  • Select the PhatMac application, right-click, and choose Get Info
  • Click the icon in the upper left, then select Edit | Paste

If Docked, the application icon will update the next time you open PhatMac.
