Most of this weekend has been spent gathering up tax documents for my accountant. The last time I did my own taxes was when I could still use the 1040EZ. Since then I’ve gone with H&R Block and during the last few years, a private CPA.

I’ve been trying to run the household like my business and keeping a chart of accounts and reconciling Quicken on a regular basis. I’ve spent far less time gathering documentation this year but I’ve found areas for improvement. Notably, reconciling against every retail receipt and tracking medical expenses including OTC purchases, parking fees, and mileage.

If all goes well I’ll be filing the business and personal taxes by March instead of August.
