The #1
We’re throwing an “End of Maternity Leave” party for Laura this weekend. Since the theme is ‘babies’ I thought of having some novelty drinks to comemorate the occassion.
So here it is on a Wednesday night we devise the formula for the “The #1.”
Props to Shadan for agreeing to help in the creation, which I might add, is a true original.
I broke out our colleciton of booze: vodka, rum, triple sec, tequila, Baily’s, Kahlua, and so on. We started off with some casual drinks to whet the palette for the actual experimentation.
Let’s just say we did better than I expected.
The #1 needs to look like, well Number One. We combined vodka with lemon juice. Added some sugar. Tossed in some Limoncello. Decent, but not great.
We finally got to something drinkable then took a break to brainstorm The #2. But what was The #1? Hold that thought.
We took a short ride to Albertson’s for some Baily’s Irish Cream, Rose’s Lime Juice, and citrus vodka.
We started off The #2 as a Cement Mixer with lime juice and Baily’s. Whoa, that’s chunky. Then we switched to lemon juice which gave us the same drink with reverse polarity.
In the end? OK, but not great so we jumped back to improve The #1.
We stared at the Rose’s bottle then back at the Limoncello. Inspired, we poured and hit the jackpot with the right color and the right flavor.
- 1 part Rose’s Lime Juice
- 1 part Limoncello
- 1 part vodka (or citrus vodka)
Mix over ice and shake, pour into martini or shot glass.
The outcome?
Shadude is crashed out on the couch, the realziation hitting us that our new concoction isn’t some sissy drink.
Why?
Limoncello is aged lemon rinds soaked in grain alcohol. Yeah, grain.
The #2 will have to wait for another day but we discussed some ideas before the curtain call.
