First-time flyers

People watching can be fun, especially when they’re doing something for the first time. I was waiting in line at LAX to be processed by the TSA and found myself behind a young man, about 21, taking his first flight.

At least it seemed like his first flight since he probably made a dozen people late for their flights.

If you’ve flown at least once or twice since 9/11 you know to unload your laptop, remove your shoes, and put your stuff on the conveyor belt. This young man did all of that in super slow motion and with a precision only a structural engineer could appreciate.

Most entertaining was his concern that his bag lunch needed to be scanned separately. As I was putting my laptop away I watched his foil wrapped sandwich, apple, and bag of chips come sliding down the rollers. A TSA agent picked up the sandwich with latex gloves, not really sure what to do with it.

I should’ve stuck around to see if they used the wand on it.
