Reef Safe fish for your aquarium
Overfishing doesn’t impact just the fish we eat. The marine aquariums (i.e.: salt-water) pet industry is also a contributor to “overfishing” in a different sense of the word.
It’s not uncommon for hunters to use underwater explosives or toxins to stun fish, making them easier to catch. Unfortunately those techniques have a negative impact on the surrounding coral reef and inhabitants.
Reef Protection International has created the Reef Fish Guide for the Responsible Aquarium Hobbyist. This free publication easily printed from your computer identifies common marine aquarium species and which should be kept wild and which are OK for adding to your tank.
