MSNBC Business has a couple of articles about job interviewing and employer attitudes. Good stuff such as “where do you see yourself in five years” and “please provide a copy of your W-2 so we can verify your previous employment.”

I grew up thinking these questions were important. I still can’t tell you where I’ll be in five years but having a big, fat, bank account would be a nice piece of that puzzle. I’ve always resented salary histories because it’s a convenient way to pay you less. Your employer already has a budget so they should just throw a number out and the applicant can negotiate or leave. Negotiating a sales price with your customers is one thing but doing it to your prospective employees is insulting.

There are so many better questions to ask. Really, there are.

Stupid interview questions: “This may be your only crack at the job, so don’t get waylaid by some of the oldest and most useless gambits around.”

Danger! Lousy employer ahead: “If a potential employer wants proof of your previous salary and gives vague answers to specific questions, bolt for the exit.
