Mobile phone radiation (SAR values)
My mother-in-law sent me an article about cell phone radiation and its impact on humans, particularly children. The FCC allows cell phones to have a maximum of 1.6 watts per kilogram for the Specific Absorption Rate (SAR). Ideally you want a phone less than 1.6.
I’ve got a number of GSM phones lying around and figured I see what I’ve been exposing myself to. Of course I use a Bluetooth headset so the phone isn’t always clamped to my ear.
First off you can view the best phones in U.S. and European markets as it relates to SAR values.
The loser in our collection of phones is my wife’s VX6000 with a SAR of 1.32. Goes to show you Verizon is evil.
Here’s the list of recent to oldest GSM phones in my collection:
- Blackberry 7100t, 0.91
- Sony-Ericsson T68i, 0.38
- Nokia 8290, 1.09
Here’s a list of the lowest SAR cell phones.
